Sturm, Ruger & Company, Inc. to Acquire Marlin Firearms Assets

Sturm, Ruger & Company, Inc.'s offer to purchase the Marlin Firearms assets was accepted by Remington Outdoor Company, Inc. and approved by the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Alabama.

Ruger will pay the $30 million purchase price from cash on hand at the time of closing, which is expected to occur in October.

"The value of Marlin and its 150-year legacy was too great of an opportunity for us to pass up," said Ruger President and CEO Chris Killoy. "The brand aligns perfectly with ours, and the Marlin product portfolio will help us widen our already diverse product offerings."

The transaction is exclusively for the Marlin Firearms assets. Once the purchase is completed, Ruger will begin relocating the Marlin Firearms assets to existing Ruger manufacturing facilities.

Sierra Bullets to Acquire Assets of Barnes Bullets

Clarus Corporation subsidiary Sierra Bullets was selected to acquire certain assets relating to the Barnes Bullets brand of specialty hunting bullets in a Chapter 11 bankruptcy auction process conducted by Remington Outdoor Company.

Sierra is expected to acquire Barnes for $30.5 million in cash, pursuant to an asset purchase agreement. For the trailing 12 months ended June 30, 2020, Barnes Bullets reported $21.8 million in sales.

More financial details on Barnes Bullets will be disclosed in Clarus’ upcoming third quarter earnings call, which is anticipated to be in early November.

“We have experience in acquiring the IMR Powder brand in 2003, the Winchester Powder license in 2005 and the GOEX brand in 2009,  and we plan to put this experience to use in expanding the reach and customer base of the Ramshot, Accurate and Blackhorn 209 brands.”
