New Duty Holsters for 2025

Selecting a holster for a duty gun is an intensely personalized choice, but you can point customers in the right direction.

New Duty Holsters for 2025

While choosing holsters is frequently a challenge, finding the right duty holsters can pose even greater difficulties. It’s essential to have a variety of options available for customers who require that greater level of retention and functionality. After all, different agencies can have varying requirements, not to mention that not all holsters are made for every model of handgun. Check out these new duty holsters for 2025 to find out what customers who protect and serve could benefit from in the coming year.

Safariland Ballast Duty Holster

Something that’s important to note right off is the fact that not all manufacturers have the same definitions for levels of retention. Safariland’s retention rating system is somewhat unique. The holster maker is known for producing a vast array of duty-rated gear, and they’ve taken time to figure out how to define necessary retention. This means holsters offering passive retention aren’t given a rating, and models meant for duty are Duty Level Rated 1-3+ based on the number of hand movements needed to draw the holstered firearm. The Safariland Ballast is a new duty holster designed as the company’s top-tier model for law enforcement and boasts a 3+ rating.

The Safariland Ballast Duty Holster utilizes both SLS (Self Locking System) and ALS (Automatic Locking System) mechanisms for superior retention. This means the user must move the handgun forward and backward while engaging the levers controlling those mechanisms. It has a rotating hood covering the rearward portion of the slide and a removable red dot “lid” to protect the glass on the user’s optic. The Ballast boasts a broad range of temperature resistance — meaning it remains structurally sound — from -50 Fahrenheit to 160. Other features include a crush-resistant design and three-hole pattern made to maximize belt space. This holster is adjustable for cant and is modular so it can be configured for different lengths of firearms.

DeSantis Quick Safe

A recent addition to the DeSantis lineup is the Quick Safe, a holster that doesn’t quite look like a duty model at first glance. That’s because the DeSantis Quick Safe is designed for plainclothes carry. It doesn’t offer quite the same level of retention as models that can be decked out in additional layers of protection, but it is made for greater security than many similar-appearing models.

The DeSantis Quick Safe is a level 2 OWB holster featuring a thumb release made for ease of use and concealment — the mechanism is placed to keep it hidden from prying eyes. That gives the holster less of a duty look, as does the lack of a thumb strap or hood. The ejection port lock is strength-tested and resistant to crushing pressure. And while there’s an option for a weapon light-compatible design, the mechanism will lock into place even when the light isn’t mounted to the firearm. It’s adjustable for height and cant and ships with 1¾-inch belt loops (it’s possible to get 1½-inch belt loops separately). The DeSantis Quick Safe is currently offered for a long list of Glock models, including MOS designs. It’s also available for left- or right-handed users.

Blade-Tech Valor

According to Blade-Tech, the Valor line is designed to redefine what a duty holster can do — how it performs, available features, and overall adaptability. In fact, the Blade-Tech Valor isn’t a single holster, it’s a trio of them: Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3. As the retention level increases, so do the mechanisms involved. Level 1 features an Ejection Port Auto Lock, Level 2 offers that and a Retention Hood, and Level 3 delivers those locks as well as a Button Cover.

The Blade-Tech Valor is a great option for customers who prefer a more streamlined holster with significant customization options. This holster offers functional adaptations such as switching optics, changing weapon-mounted lights, and utilizing a compensator. After all, no member of the military or law enforcement is likely to stick with the same accessories indefinitely. The Valor works well with open or closed emitter dot sights, continues to deliver superior retention even when the handgun has all accessories removed, and is made with an open mouth to accommodate different barrel lengths and muzzle devices. Additional custom options include an XL endcap, chop guard, front mounting plate, and optic shroud. The front mounting plate can be used with Blade-Tech’s Tek-Mount Mini to keep a tourniquet readily available. Blade-Tech offers the Valor in Green, Tan, Multicam, Basketweave and a variety of other finishes.

Alien Gear Rapid Force Level 3 for Compact Lights

The Rapid Force Level 3 for Compact Lights is Alien Gear’s latest addition to their popular family of duty holsters. As its name suggests, this holster is made for compact weapon-mounted lights rather than full-size models. The Rapid Force Level 3 is made with locking mechanisms designed for intuitive operation and offers useful accessory features as well. And if customers prefer a duty holster with fewer mechanisms, they’ll be pleased to hear there are also Rapid Force Level 1 and 2 options.

One feature the Rapid Force holsters boast that adds another layer of usefulness is seamless Axon integration. It has a built-in Axon Signal Sidearm mount to reduce bulk and snagging surfaces while making camera activation simple (the sensor itself isn’t included). Other features of the Rapid Force Level 3 include a removable optics hood, fantastic trigger guard protection, and stellar durability. For the locking mechanisms of the Rapid Force to work properly, a weapon-mounted light must be mounted to the handgun. Drawing from the Rapid Force Level 3 requires the user to press the button to release the hood and manipulate the locking lever rearward. The Alien Gear Rapid Force Level 3 is also available for large weapon-mounted lights and firearms without lights.

Galco Ankle Glove Holster

Although the Galco Ankle Glove Holster isn’t brand new, it’s a piece of gear worth having for members of law enforcement requiring a backup gun. Galco’s design excels compared to many — if not most — other ankle-mounted designs as a molded leather holster. This isn’t a soft nylon pouch, pocket, or wrap — it’s a real holster delivering reliable retention. The holster itself is made using premium steerhide and is molded to the shape of the gun. A retention strap with a reinforced thumb break is present on most Ankle Glove designs (the exception being handgun models that simply aren’t conducive to a thumb break).

The Galco Ankle Glove Holster is mounted to a neoprene ankle band for comfort and fitment. A hook-and-loop closure keeps the system in place, and sheepskin pads the wearer’s skin from the interior portion of the band and holster. The band fits ankles up to 13 inches around. There’s also a Calf Strap available separately that makes it possible to secure the Ankle Glove Holster at different heights on the leg — an especially useful feature for compatibility with taller duty boots. This holster is made for left- or right-handed draw, and there are models made for both semi-autos and revolvers. It’s an excellent holster for backup guns, one that offers greater security and consistent placement than a pocket holster.
