In sporting goods, finding low-SKU-count products that meet the same needs across diverse firearms purchases can be a retail unicorn. High Speed Gear (HSGI) universal mag pouches may be that product line. HSGI’s innovative TACO magazine pouches are a rugged military- and LEO-proven one-size-fits-all magazine pouch solution. The TACOs pack a lot into minimal SKU stocking requirements that appeals to everyone from first-time shooters and hunters to 3-gun competitors and seasoned law enforcement professionals. In as little as one to three HSGI SKUs, a retailer could cover just about any handgun or rifle pouch requirement.
The TACO Advantage
It is truly amazing what you can stuff in these magazine pouches. At the heart of HSGI’s success is the TACO pouch’s universal fit. The design is ingeniously simple yet functionally elegant: an open-top, bungee-retention system with flexible side panels that adjust to the shape of the gear it holds. This means one “rifle” pouch can accommodate pretty much all PCC and rifle magazines, including AR, .308 and AK magazines, a handheld radio, a 16-ounce water bottle, a can of soda, a TQ, dual pistol magazines or even two Power Bars, all without touching the adjustable retention. A “pistol” pouch can stretch out to hold nearly any double-stack magazine, a flashlight, a multi-tool, a pair of trauma shears, a can of pepper spray or even (stretched way out) Kuna, MPX or Scorpion PCC magazines. A single HSGI Double Decker TACO (rifle + pistol) pouch can deliver a do-it-all single SKU option.
HSGI’s patent-pending shock-cord and webbing configuration allows for secure adjustable retention and smooth draws, while MOLLE compatibility and standard belt mounts make them relevant across tactical, concealed carry, and hunting markets. This broad compatibility means that whether your customers are weekend warriors or full-time professionals, there’s a TACO pouch that fits their needs as long as there is a belt or MOLLE/PAL slot it can attach to. Based on some simplified attachment options from HSGI, reconfiguring a belt and pouches for different purposes is much faster.
Within the magazine pouch line, HSGI offers nylon fabric Original (Gen 1) and more modern Gen 2 versions, polymer, and LEO duty-focused “blue” versions. Standard universal rifle and pistol pouches are available in single, stacked or side-by-side configurations. More specialized pouches are also available for TQs, extended PCC magazines, batons, water bottles, tasers, handcuffs and more. HSGI also offers a complement of combat/duty belts and chest rigs.
The highly flexible design of the original and Gen 2 nylon fabric models still remain favorites with a more conforming fit around odd-sized objects such as PCC magazines. HSGI recently introduced the lighter and more refined Gen 2 TACO of the Original. The Gen 2 TACO uses updated laminate construction, less exposed bungee cords, with sleeker profiles and improved weight distribution. It still retains the legendary compatibility of the original but offers a cleaner, more modern aesthetic.
The Polymer TACO series replaces nylon with a rigid, weather-resistant polymer shell and more open top pouch design. This makes it ideal for wet environments and users who want a hard-shell, easy-clean design with fast magazine insertion. The all polymer TACO pouches are a 3-gun competitor favorite and are reconfigurable via Chicago Screws while still accommodating a wide array of pistol and rifle magazines. There is a place on belts for both the polymer and fabric models depending on the needs of the buyer.
The “blue” LEO models are specifically built for law enforcement and duty applications with friendly pairing onto existing duty belts. Some include flapped covers, integrated handcuff carriers, or larger platforms for field utility.
Selling the Adaptability
Showing the infinite adaptability with a demo model with a soda can in a rifle pouch and PCC in a pistol pouch showcases adaptability and creates a conversation piece. This universal adaptability reduces shelf clutter, simplifies staff training and sales and creates an easy upsell during firearms or belt purchases. Customers are more willing to invest into a system that is adaptable and configurable to support nearly any training, field or professional future need or firearm purchase.
The HSGI pouches pair well with all holsters, belt and firearm purchases and can move to other mounting platforms as needed. TACO pouches sit in a favorable MSRP $30+ range that offers protected MAP margins for retailers. When promoted properly, even a $30+ pouch can lead to a $200+ cart when bundled with additional pouches and belts. They are also a good repeat purchase item as customers customize, add and build out multiple rigs. Most pouches are available in Black, FDE, OD Green, and for certain models, camo or LEO blue.
Tactical Retailer Testing
I’ve been a fan of and have been using HSGI pouches for almost two decades with my original first pouches still in use and fully functional. As a writer, I test a huge variety of firearms, and the HSGI pouch system has delivered a one-and-done purchase solution that can accommodate any firearm testing or training situation that spans PCCs, ARs, .308s, AICS, AK, Bren, pistol magazines, lights, radios, multitools and IFAK equipment. The system has delivered fast configuration changing from general range testing, tactical training, hunting and competitive needs. HSGI’s designs and belt attachment options have improved over the years. Originally just MOLLE, they now offer a size-adaptable ABM belt mount, One-Wrap hook-and-loop mount, and a polymer MOLLE/PALS clip, which are the easiest and fastest attachment options ever devised.
Though it would be challenging to show the entire HSGI line, we wanted to showcase a configured belt setup with the most popular pouch options plus a quick-response Micro Range Sling setup. Many customers will want to mix and match pouches, styles, and potentially colors.
My Personal Rig
Gloriously tactical? No, but it has worked beautifully for years, even adapting around a torn rotator cuff. Though it’s well-worn, a similar HSGI-based belt setup has supported me though over 5K hours of formal training. This highly affordable Tacticon belt features both HSGI and other products to support the broad array of firearms testing. The high-noon appendix pistol position is due to shoulder injuries of this worn-out writer. Mounted to the belt is a Vega universal holster similar to the bungie TACO magazines but in holster form. Just like the flexibility of the HSGI mag pouches, this holster accommodates over 130+ handguns.
On the belt are three HSGI Double Decker TACO (rifle + pistol) pouches positioned at 9, 10 and 3-o’clock, an OD Green HSGI extended PCC magazine/baton pouch, single polymer TACO pistol magazine at the 2-o’clock position, MOLLE dump pouch, and nylon MOLLE pouch as a TQ holder. Usually the right side double TACO is holding a 16-ounce water bottle in the rifle pouch and multi-tool or snack bar in the pistol pouch.
Obviously I am not shooting a Galil .308, AR, Kuna PCC, Kriss Vector, Glock 17, and AK at the same time; however, the included picture showcases the adaptability with all these magazines stuffed comfortably into the HSGI pouches. Just for fun, the same HSGI Double Decker TACO (rifle + pistol) pouch used on the belt is shown with a can of soda and Power Bar simply to demonstrate the insane adaptability of the bungie system, all without making any bungie tension adjustments.
Bedside HSGI Micro Range Sling Bag MOLLE
My two-second throw-over sling bag is another example of the flexibility and customization of the TACO system with bag and pack MOLLE or PALs fields. This very simple throw-over sling bag was configured to support my bedside Kriss Vector SDP Gen 3 9mm and Glock 17. Though small, with just a HSGI Double Decker TACO (rifle + pistol) pouch, I can retain two Magpul Pmag 21s and Surefire Tactical Light in the pistol pouch. The extended PCC pistol mag pouch holds a long 33-round Glock magazine, but there is still room left on this tiny sling bag for a large Extrema Ratio Nemesis folder that securely clips to the MOLLE. The zippered internal 10x10-inch pocket can also support 8x10 armor plates plus any IFAK items.
Low SKU Count With Insane Adaptability
The HSGI TACO line is more than just a magazine pouch — it’s a flexible, universal gear solution that appeals to a wide swath of buyers. For sporting goods retailers, it represents a high-margin, high-turnover product with broad compatibility and excellent upsell potential. By educating staff, creating bundle opportunities, and building displays that highlight the pouch’s universal capability, retailers can turn a single pouch into a recurring revenue stream. With models to suit every customer — from the casual weekend shooter to the full-time patrol officer — HSGI’s TACO line is a winning addition to any inventory strategy.
