The Department of Homeland Security (DHS), U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has selected Vista Outdoor’s Speer Ammunition brand as the awardee for their 9mm Service Ammunition

CBP is one of the world’s largest law enforcement agencies. It is charged with border security while also overseeing lawful international trade and travel. This is the largest duty contract won in company history and solidifies Speer as law enforcement’s No. 1 choice of duty ammunition.

This single-award, Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity contract is a Strategically Sourced contract for all DHS components and other federal agencies with a maximum value of $112 Million dollars. The ordering period is for five years with product delivery in August 2020.

“We are proud to provide the highest quality duty ammunition to CBP officers charged with the monumental task of border security,” said Jason Vanderbrink, president of Speer Ammunition. “We know they require the best ammunition in their mission to protect our borders and keep the homeland safe. The use of Gold Dot technology in this contract ammunition ensures the highest performance threshold and absolute confidence in on-duty performance.”

CBP selected a round utilizing the Speer Gold Dot technology, which has set an industry benchmark for self-defense and duty use, earning the trust of consumers and law enforcement worldwide. The bullet features a pressure-formed lead core bonded to an extremely uniform jacket a single atom at a time that virtually eliminates separation on impact for more retained weight and consistent penetration depths. The Gold Dot hollow-point design expands consistently through the full range of barriers. Reliable ignition and cycling are delivered thanks to sealed primers and nickel-plated brass.

NSSF Launches American Red Cross Fundraiser

NSSF, the firearm industry trade association, has launched a fundraising campaign to benefit the American Red Cross. The fundraiser is the newest component of NSSF’s Gun Owners Care initiative.

NSSF launched the Gun Owners Care initiative at the 2020 SHOT Show to gather the voices of the firearm-owning public and show our country American firearm owners are good people doing good things for families, friends, neighbors and communities.

“Our industry has shown exceptional generosity in the wake of the pandemic and other difficulties our country has been experiencing,” said Joe Bartozzi, NSSF President and CEO. “We’ve seen our manufacturers convert their plant machinery to make face shields and hand sanitizer, and their employees have fed first responders and stocked community food banks. All of us in the firearm industry care deeply for our home communities and our country, and we believe this fundraiser for the American Red Cross will show everyone how much gun owners care.

“The American Red Cross needs your help to deliver their lifesaving mission perhaps now more than ever,” he added. “I’m asking everyone in the firearm industry to please join us in donating today. Our goal is to raise $10,000 over the next three months — and if everything our industry members have given over the past few months is any indication, I wouldn’t at all be surprised to see that goal far exceeded.”

In addition to monetary donations, which go directly to the American Red Cross when made through NSSF’s page, NSSF encourages members of the firearm industry to donate blood, also a desperate need for the Red Cross. Entering a zip code in the indicated box here reveals the nearest donation sites, and it also provides information on how all blood donations are being tested for COVID-19 antibodies, which is key to ending this health crisis and preventing a resurgence.

Sig Sauer Brings Sig-Anti-Snag Technology to P938

Sig Sauer has upgraded the P938 SAS (SIG Anti-Snag) pistol, bringing new innovation to this popular lightweight, micro-compact, concealed carry pistol.

“When we introduced the SAS technology with the P365 it was immensely popular, and the demand for this new technology in the concealed carry market was immediate. The SIG P938 is a very popular micro-compact pistol, so the addition of the SAS technology was a natural fit for this platform,” said Tom Taylor, Chief Marketing Officer and Executive Vice President, Commercial Sales. “Our proprietary SAS technology removes all the snag points from the pistol for a seamless draw. The integrated, flush-mounted FT Bullseye sight mounted directly into the slide is intuitive, and easy for the untrained eye to pick-up for fast target acquisition.”

The Sig Sauer P938 SAS is a 9mm, single action only (SAO), hammer fired, alloy frame pistol with a Nitron finish. The pistol features the SIG Anti-Snag (SAS) technology slide treatment with a flush-mounted FT bullseye fiber-tritium night sight, an ambidextrous thumb safety, and ships with (1) 7-round magazine.

The Sig Sauer P938 SAS is now shipping and available at retailers. To learn more about the P938 SAS, or watch the product video with Phil Strader, Pistol Product Manager, visit

The 2020 NASGW Expo - Canceled

The National Association of Sporting Goods Wholesalers’ Board of Directors has canceled the 2020 NASGW Expo scheduled for October in Grapevine, Texas.

NASGW leadership has been monitoring the mounting cases of COVID-19 in Texas and the expanding travel restrictions throughout the country. Despite extensive planning and precautions taken to limit risk, the health and safety of our members and the shooting sports industry is the top priority.

“As cases have continued to increase and travel restrictions are starting to expand, this decision is best for the health and safety of our members,” said Laurie Aronson, NASGW Chairwoman. “We need to protect our industry right now, and unfortunately that means canceling the NASGW Expo.”

NASGW is currently working with the hotel, convention center, and vendors regarding the cancellation. Resources for members and exhibitors will be available in the near future. NASGW is looking forward to the 2021 Expo on Oct. 27-29 in Columbus, Ohio.

“For many in our industry, the NASGW Expo is their most productive event because it is very business focused,” said Kenyon Gleason, NASGW President. “Unfortunately, bringing people together in 2020 is not the best thing for our association, our industry, or our country. This was a very difficult decision, but one that ultimately proved the most responsible course of action.”
