What happens when a booming 50-caliber bullet hits a thick pane of ballistic glass designed to take on big rounds?

It's interesting, to say the least. And probably what you might expect when a giant bullet designed for penetration and lethal impact delivers its energy on a static object.

If you've never shot a 50-caliber rifle it's pretty cool. The first time I did, I hesitated because my perception was that the bigger caliber meant more felt recoil. I'm not crazy about having my shoulder mashed around and my noggin' smacked, so I watched a buddy shoot.

"Kicks about like a 12-gauge," he said. He was right. It's quite fun and I hope to get behind one again sometime soon. Until then, watching videos like this one from Smarter Every Day is a cool way to learn more about these big rifles.
